Calm, sunny and covered in thick icing sugar!

Despite living in the Cairngorms National Park with Cairngorm more or less in my back yard, I'm often still surprised at how quickly conditions can change...!

Over the past few days the hills have been hidden in cloud but today the cloud lifted, revealing sparkling white coated mountains. Looking at the weather forecast we were expecting to have to navigate in to our climbs today. However the wind dropped, the sun shone and the cloud lifted as we made our way up the hill on pristine yet firm snow. Apart from our friend Jonathan P we had the white rime encased crags to ourselves with stunning views all around.

The Cairngorm Mountain ski area is due to open this weekend and to be honest I thought the ski runs would be narrow and thin. However looking at the cover today and seeing reports from friends out off-piste ski touring, this weekends skiing along with the winter climbing will be pretty good... More photos and more regular updates on our Facebook page :-)
